(December 11, 2009) The Gallatin Police Department has a new mascot – Taser the Crime Cat. Taser was created exclusively for the Gallatin Police to work with children and visit schools. If you have a children’s program and would like Taser to visit, please contact the Gallatin Police Department at 452-1313 and ask for either Lt. Troup or Sgt. Vahldiek.
(December 11, 2009) More than 100 people packed the Gallatin Library for the City’s first Tuba Christmas last night. Seventeen tuba players – young and old – from across the county performed under the direction of Phil Waters of Station Camp High School. (December 5, 2009) More than 90 children got their Christmas a bit early this year thanks to the City of Gallatin’s Shop with a Cop/Firefighter annual event. Donations and fundraisers underwrite the shopping at Walmart. Both Santa and the Chik-Fil-A cow visited the children. In addition to Gallatin Police and Firefighters, others helped the children shop including the Sheriff’s Department, EMA, District Attorney’s Office, First Baptist Winchester, and Beech High School Students. The Gallatin Christmas Parade is Saturday, December 5, beginning at noon. Line up is on Steamplant Road near the hospital. This year’s theme is “A Christmas Hit Parade: Celebrating the music of Christmas.” To enter the parade, contact the Gallatin Chamber of Commerce at 452-4000.
Each year, the Gallatin Police and Fire Departments host “Shop with a Cop & Firefighter” program to provide Christmas for 50 children from disadvantaged families. One way you can help with the program is by entering the “Santa Classic” golf tournament (click here for more info). (September 30, 2009) The Greater Nashville Regional Council (GNRC) honored the City of Gallatin with five awards at its annual banquet last night. The City received awards for Parks and Recreation, Planning, Recycling, and Tourism efforts at Historic Rose Mont. The City in partnership with the Downtown Library Committee and Sumner County received an award for the Downtown Library as part of the Downtown Revitalization. (Read more)

(September 8, 2009) – The Department of Environment and Conservation is partnering with Envirotest to raise awareness and educate the community about the role properly inflated tires can play in a cleaner, healthier environment. As part of this community outreach, motorists will receive a free tire gauge with each vehicle emissions test at several testing stations, including Gallatin, throughout Middle Tennessee beginning Thursday, Sept. 17. (August 31, 2009) A nearly 100-year-old piece of history is on display at Gallatin City Hall for the month of September. The display includes a piece of the interurban electric rail line uncovered last month during construction of the Downtown Streetscape. The display also includes photos provided by Sumner County Museum Curator Allen Haynes. The photos span more than 100 years of activities downtown on the square. The display is in one of the showcases in the lobby of City Hall. The rail lines, pieces of cross-tie and spikes will be donated to the Sumner County Museum.

(August 19, 2009) Lt. Don Bandy of the Gallatin Police Department receives the Silver Star for saving a life. Lt. Bandy saved a toddler who had fallen in a swimming pool and had turned blue and lifeless. Lt. Bandy pulled the toddler from the pool and, along with two citizens, performed rescue breathing and other life-saving measures. Chief John Tisdale said the Police Department has awarded only three Silver Stars, including the one to Lt. Bandy, for life-saving heroics.

Middle Tennessee Mayors’ Caucus examining mass transit in the
area. The group includes Mayor Karl Dean of Nashville as well as mayors from
10 counties surrounding
Davidson
County. The Caucus held its first meeting this week.

The marker at City Hall and another at Trousdale Place are the first two Civil War Trail Markers in Sumner County. Civil War Trails is a multi-state program. Eagle Bus Manufacturing, Inc. today joined Governor Phil Bredesen, Tennessee

local officials in announcing the company’s relocation to Gallatin, Tennessee.
Although Silver Eagle will offer only a few dozen positions in its temporary
location while it constructs a new facility, once fully operational the
company’s business plan anticipates hiring more than 500 people. The
company will be relocating from its Brownsville,

(May 7, 2009) The Gallatin Fire Department headquarters at 119 GFD Memorial Boulevard behind City Hall was dedicated today to the memory of long-time Fire Chief Joe Womack. Chief Womack, or Uncle Joe as he was called by many, served as Fire Chief from 1978 until his passing in 2006.
